Welcome
to Streamway Villa When visitors enter the doors of
Streamway Villa in Cobourg, they are welcomed with a
warm sense of compassion, enthusiasm and care and staff
members who are more than willing to go the extra mile.
Take, for example, full-time registered
nurse Lynn Thomson. Over the past few months the home
has placed a strong focus on the Healthy
Skin Healthy Living project led by Candace Chartier
from OMNI home office. Streamway is seeing tremendous
results, with zero new skin problems among residents.
The staff members have all had training, but Lynn
oversees most of the skin care issues, and has even
come in on her day off to assist with special “sensitive”
cases.
Streamway’s strong focus
on family has quite impacted Fred Evans, whose wife
Norah is a resident at Streamway. Fred visits his wife
daily, volunteers at the home and would even like to
be the tour person. Impressed
with the care his wife receives and how employees
treat each resident, he says, "the young women
are like daughters." It is not unusual to see a
staff member embrace a resident to comfort her if she
is unhappy. One resident told a staff member how disheartening
it was to be unable to return to the home she once lived
and loved. She then went on to explain how comforting
it is to have met a wonderful and caring group of people
at Streamway.
The grounds are surrounded by an abundance
of beautiful
gardens cared for by staff, residents and families.
Families are encouraged to bring in plants in honour
of their loved ones, whether from home or from residents'
former homes. Residents who wish to can participate
in the day-to-day care of the gardens.
Staff, family members and residents at
Streamway Villa are working together to ensure the home
continues to be just that - a home.

OMNI makes long-term care ‘home’
What makes a home? For some, home is defined by its
size, stature, interior-designed rooms and lavish belongings.
For others, home is somewhat of a modest, cozy accommodation.
