Share your story about being a nurse with provincial audience
Friday May 2, 2008 -- Natalie Miller
The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) is inviting nurses to share their stories about working in the profession as part of this year's nursing week celebrations.
So far, the association has received entries ranging from why nurses chose the profession to specific examples of how caregivers have been touched by patients.
“We would love to get more submissions about long-term care experiences,” says Jill Scarrow, communications officer at the RNAO.
She says the types of stories the RNAO is looking for could answer any of the following questions: Why did you go into nursing? What do you love about it? What are the biggest challenges? The greatest rewards? Is there a patient you’ll never forget? What has been your proudest moment? Why would you recommend the profession to others?
Marion Zych, director of communications for RNAO, says the idea was developed by the communications department.
“We wanted to involve nurses in the celebration of their profession,” she says.
“We wanted to give them an opportunity” to share their stories. “Our department is responsible to promote nursing week not just to the public but to the nurses. We value the work they do 365 days a year.”
Nursing Week, a specific week set aside to recognize nurses, is May 12 to 18. Writing experience is not necessary for story submissions. Keep entries limited to 300 words. Submit stories by May 14. The stories may be published on the RNAO website. For complete details, visit this link.
The gathering of stories is just one of the activities planned. To view a complete listing of events, visit this link.
