LECs plan summer outings and fun for residents
Barbeques, sports games and community events make summer memorable

With the July long weekend quickly approaching, OMNIs life enrichment co-ordinators (LECs) are busy planning outings and events for residents to have fun and enjoy the summer months.
Kentwood Park recently took advantage of a sunny day to take residents to explore MacCauley Heritage House in Picton. The brick home is 180 years old and residents were able to tour the historical site and try out a rare, local specialty.
“The MacCauley House is famous for their rhubarb juice,” says LEC Linda Sheppard. She says residents enjoyed the juice, as well as tea and deserts, while reminiscing on the home’s garden patio.
“It was just delightful.”
For Streamway Villa, summer means more community involvement. The Cobourg long-term care home says the upcoming months are a prime time for activities around town, including summer festivals and evening concerts in the park.
“What we try to do is make sure that we get to all the community events,” says LEC Denise Ansell. “We have a very unique community and there is always something going on.”
Ansell says residents will start summer off with a waterfront festival held the first weekend of July.
Burnbrae Gardens plans on bringing the community into the Campbellford long-term care home by hosting their first family barbecue. The July 6 event is a great way for residents to get outside and enjoy the outdoors, according to LEC April Faux.
Faux, who just finished sending out formal invitations to families, adds the visits from grandkids and children will make the day memorable for residents.
Attending sports games is another favourite summer pastime and Pleasant Meadow Manor residents are looking forward to their annual trip to watch the Blue Jays in Toronto.
LEC Jackie Arnott says the home has a large number of baseball fans who have made sure to remind her not to forget about this year’s upcoming game.
“They just love it, they have been bugging me for months, asking me if I’ve got the tickets,” laughs Arnott.
Pleasant Meadow is planning the trip with fellow Peterborough-area home, Riverview Manor.
With many events on the horizon, make sure to watch the OMNIway News for future coverage of summer activities.
