Safety
leader invites OMNI to sit on governance committee
Friday, January 12, 2007 -- Natalie Miller
A lead health and safety organization has invited
OMNI to sit on its governance committee.
Home office’s April Dowdall,
manager of human resources, will join the Dunk
& Associates governance committee at its first
meeting Jan. 23. OMNI participated in the Safety
Group training program in 2006 sponsored by a
number of different organizations including Dunk
& Associates, which works closely with the
Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). It
was one of the long-term care provider’s
initiatives aimed at improving its safety record
and creating better environments in its 16 long-term
care homes.
Since it has only been involved
in the Safety Group training program for one year,
April considers it flattering Dunk & Associates
asked OMNI to sit on its committee.
“It was a compliment for OMNI
to be invited to participate on this committee
after only one year as participants in Safety
Group,” says April.
“Our other reasons for joining
this committee are we would like to share our
learning experiences with other firms to help
them through the process, and to contribute to
the Safety Group program in any way we can to
support everyone's efforts.”
The purpose of the governance committee
is to assist Dunk & Associates in their roles
as sponsors for the WSIB Safety Groups program.
“As a committee member your
role is to provide constructive feedback and input
on materials, facilitation and program direction,”
says Dunk & Associates in an e-mail extending
the invitation to OMNI.
The goal of the governance committee
is to achieve 100 per cent implementation for
the entire group in the program.
In 2006, two OMNI managers
from each of the 16 long-term care homes took
part in four safety training sessions. The education
continues in 2007 with another four sessions.
