Frost fundraiser
Event best yet for home

Family members of about eight new Frost Manor
residents received a personal invite to attend
a turkey supper with their loved ones recently
at the Lindsay long-term care home.
Experiencing an increased arrival
of new residents over the past few months, life
enrichment co-ordinator Vi O’Leary personally
called them to take part in a special event at
Frost.
The turkey supper turned out to
be one of Frost Manor’s profitable fundraisers
to date and boosted the home’s resident
council fund by $559.
“That went over very well,”
says Vi.
“It was one of the best fundraising
events we’ve ever had.”
Frost expected 35 residents in attendance,
with some bringing as many as five family members
or friends each. The nursing home advertised the
event in the local newspaper and church bulletin,
in hopes of attracting other community members
as well. Residents paid $5 for the meal and their
guests paid $10. Jean says residents agreed to
the $5 charge, saying they would expect to pay
if dining out a restaurant. Residents who chose
not to attend were served a regular meal before
the supper began.
Staff dressed the tables with cloth
linens, as well as doilies and glass candle holders,
already purchased by the residents’ council.
The fancy table dressings will be used at special
occasions including the home’s sweetheart
supper for Valentine’s Day, its annual volunteer
luncheon and Mother’s Day tea.
Funds raised allow for the purchase
of glass dinnerware, including six dozen juice
glasses and eight dozen water glasses. The request
for fancier table settings was made by the residents’
council to create more of a fine dining experience.
“This is the way our residents
used to entertain,” explains Jean Chilton,
nutritional care manager at Frost Manor, earlier
told the OMNIway.
“That’s what we want
to give back to them.”
