OMNI homes get into Halloween spirit

Seniors and students together unleashed their imagination and carved pumpkins at Garden Terrace Monday.

Twenty-five students from nearby Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Kanata joined the long-term care home’s residents in the Halloween activity.

“The teacher contacted me looking for something for them to do with the residents,

an interactive sort of program,” says Shannon Boisvenue, life enrichment co-ordinator at Garden Terrace.

“We decided the pumpkin carving would be something fun for them to do. It all went really well. We had several residents participate,” says Shannon. The students and residents were quite creative and had a lot of fun.”

The carved pumpkins now decorate each of Garden Terrace’s home areas where residents live. Keeping with the autumn theme, Garden Terrace also held recently a harvest ball which included refreshments, treats, a disc jockey and dancing.

Other homes got into the festive spirit, including Rosebridge Manor, where staff and residents dressed in costume Tuesday.

“Everyone got involved this year,” says Nelly Hobbs, administrator of the Jasper long-term care home.

Staff and residents took part in a Halloween party, with dietary staff creating scary concoctions including a goblin and ghost pie.

Meanwhile, at Burnbrae Gardens management donned an array of costumes from a Sumo wrestler sported by life enrichment co-ordinator April Anderson to administrator Mary Anne Greco dressed as a Geisha.
