Forest Hill fundraising in circus-like atmosphere
Tuesday, October 4,
2005 -- Craig Anderson
It’s not everyday that you witness OMNI
staff jumping up and falling down in a giant
inflatable toy castle, but at Forest Hill
on Saturday, Oct. 1st, shenanigans of this
sort were on regular order, as well as cheap
eats and lots of bargain household items at
the second annual “Family Fun Day.”
Resident’s families and friends, along
with staff, took part in the day long event,
which featured both a garage sale and various
amusement park items, like the aforementioned
over-sized toy castle (not just for kids anymore)
and a cotton candy machine, complete with
accompanying server. Face-painting rounded
out the days activities, which began at 8am
with a massive garage sale.

The garage sale, opened to the public, had
been advertised for the month of September,
resulting in a huge haul of goods, says Carolyn
Della Foresta, ‘Family Fun’ organizer
and Forest Hill LEC.
More than 200 people showed up for the day,
which along with a garage sale, featured a
BBQ (the food was donated by Sysco) and ended
as a circus-like free-for-all.
“It was a lot of fun,” says Carol
Schwartz, assistant LEC, who brought her two
children, Noë and Sophiä, to the
event. Forest Hill’s ample patio was
the perfect venue for the event, which despite
the high costs of renting the rubber castle
and cotton candy machine, netted $647 dollars.
The money will go to the resident’s
council, says Carol, and will be used solely
for resident activities. Last year, a portion
of the money went to Christmas festivities.
