Village Green renovations
move along
Monday, June 6,
2005 -- Natalie Miller
Enclosed for weeks now by a temporary barrier,
the walls came down at Village Green Friday, revealing
details of renovations to the home.
The 30-year-old Selby long-term care home is
undergoing the second stage of about $300,000
worth of renovations to modernize the building
that’s home to 66 residents. Village Green’s
lobby is the primary target for the renovations
aimed at creating a space that’s welcoming
for residents and their family members.
A fireplace with brick mantel will be installed
in the new family room. Oak pillars extend to
the ceiling and bench seating, along with five
elegant chandeliers, are also part of the new
lobby. New furniture, carpeting, flooring and
paint will complete the space.
The area under construction has been closed off
by temporary walls to minimize disruption and
for safety reasons.
The fireplace still needs to be installed, the
bench seating is not quite complete and the new
information centre is under construction still.
The renovations are expected to be complete this
month.
“It’s completely transformed the
home,” says Linda about the renovations.
The public washrooms have been updated, as well
as improvements made in the small dining room,
including new cupboards and improved resident
washrooms. The offices at Village Green have also
been redone with new carpet and paint.
The first stage of renovations at Village Green
were completed late in 2004 and included the installation
of air conditioning, a fresh coat of paint in
the hallways and new flooring and ceiling tiles
in residents’ rooms.
Village Green Administrator Linda Pierce suspects
the overall facelift will be a selling point for
new families considered long-term care for their
relatives in the Selby area.
