Woodland gets into Christmas spirit

A busy holiday season of entertainment and fun is gearing up at Woodland Villa in Long Sault. Rita Tremblay, life enrichment co-ordinator (LEC), says Woodland is holding an "old-fashioned Christmas" party Dec. 15. A group of three women guitarists who call themselves Mavis Riddel will entertain, says Rita.

"They sing old favourites and will get the residents to sing along with them."

On Dec. 19, the resident’s Christmas party will feature Santa Claus, also known as Administrator Jean-Marc Lanoue, says the LEC.

Rita says the gifts from the Angel Tree program promise to be a big hit. Family members, staff members or friends can choose an angel from the tree, each of which has a resident’s name.

Whomever picks an angel agrees to purchase a resident a gift, with a $10 cap on it, explains Rita.

In the afternoon, The Friends will play for Woodland residents. The Friends is a group of five seniors who play various instruments and sing. Later in the evening, Bob Megenhardt’s one-man show with his keyboard will entertain.

At both parties wine and rum and eggnog will be served, and the nutritional care department plays a big role in helping to make the party a success, says Rita.

"We expect everyone will have a good time. We have lots of entertainment and the residents just love the sing-alongs."
