Students from St. Paul's Catholic School join residents at Norwood's Pleasant Meadow Manor for bingo every Monday evening.

Kids join residents for bingo

On Monday evenings at Pleasant Meadow Manor, there’s a gathering of different generations.

As residents settle in for bingo night, schoolchildren filter into the Norwood long-term care home. The boys and girls sit with the residents, helping them with their game cards and bingo dabbers. Pleasant Meadow Manor Life Enrichment Supervisor Chris Charlebois knows the residents anticipate Mondays for both the bingo and the interaction with the children. It’s an activity residents don’t need prompting to attend like on some evenings, Chris explains.

“It’s great,” she says.

“The residents look forward to it.”

Pleasant Meadow recently expressed its gratitude to the schoolchildren, who have been volunteering their time since February, with a pizza party. The children were invited to play bingo and they won prizes. “We had to do something to show our appreciation,” says Chris.

Pleasant Meadow volunteer Julie Barber, who also offers her time to nearby St. Paul’s Catholic School, came up with the idea to get the children involved.
