A resident at Streamway Villa in Cobourg says fun and laughter is a part
of her home.
Barb LeBlanc moved into the long-term care home in December
2003. She says there’s “an awful lot” of enthusiasm
at Streamway.
“There’s always laughter here,” says Barb.
“There’s a lot to do. We play a lot of games and
do crafts, I really enjoy them.”
Barb participated in the recent OMNI trip to Showplace Peterborough
to see Patch Adams, a doctor, professional clown, author and social activist
who brings fun and laughter to children, patients and others around the
world. The doctor is renowned for introducing humour and joy into health
care.
“I loved him,” says Barb. “I thought he was
great.” Prior to the event, Barb saw the Patch Adams movie starring
Robin Williams.
During the presentation, Patch showed a video of his travels
to foreign countries with poor health care conditions. The impact of introducing
fun and laughter to the children was incredible, says Barb. “Something
as simple as a balloon brought a smile to the kids’ faces. I think
what he’s doing his great.”
