Pleasant Meadow Manor resident Chris Jones beats Sylvia Sanders, office manager, hands-down in a recent arm wrestling contest.
Resident challenges others to arm wrestling match
Jones wins hands-down

When employees put their elbows on the table for an arm wrestling contest recently, they knew they didn’t stand a chance against resident Chris Jones.

But when Chris requested the match-up to measure the power of their biceps, staff members figured they would give it their best anyway. In three clean sweeps, Chris defeated Pleasant Meadow Manor Administrator Connie Garden, Life Enrichment Supervisor Chris Charlebois and Office Manager Sylvia Sanders.

“We knew he would beat us hands-down,” says the life enrichment supervisor.

“Chris has very strong upper arms.”

Chris, who lives at the Norwood long-term care home, suggested during a recent meeting of Pleasant Meadow Manor’s residents’ council, the home hold an arm wrestling contest. When residents make a request at the meeting, staff attempts to honour it, notes Chris Charlebois. She scheduled the arm wrestling match on to the home’s calendar for February.

Chris and a fellow resident, Doug Blakely, signed up for the activity. “We basically did it for Chris’s benefit (given he had made a special request),” says Chris Charlebois. “He had a ball,” she says. She notes Chris laughed and joked, asking employees if they had sore arms throughout the duration of the day.

Connie says the exercises at Pleasant Meadow Manor “are really working for our residents.”
