Letter: Grace's Wish
'She truly believes
in the difference Oprah makes'
Wednesday September 24, 2003
It is not often we have the opportunity to make a resounding difference
in the life of another, and yet you do it every day.
It is with your help, I too wish to make a difference in the life of
another, and it is with this hope I am forwarding this letter to you.
Not far from Peterborough is the small town of Norwood. In
Norwood is the long-term care home of Pleasant Meadow Manor. This is
a home dedicated
to making the lives of their residents and staff more enriched, meaningful,
and enjoyable.
Within the home is a lady named Grace. Grace is a kind,
eighty year old person that would like nothing more than to meet with
one of the
people she most respects in her life…Oprah Winfrey.
Everyday, no matter what events may be taking place around her, Grace
makes her schedule around your program. She is dedicated and truly believes
in the difference you make to others.
The good people of Pleasant Meadow Manor were trying
to come up with different ways of enhancing the lives of their residents
when the idea
of 'Make-a-Wish' was conceived. The idea being that each
resident would drop their wish into a wooden fountain in hopes their
wish could come true. In the past the wishes have ranged from special
outings to wonderful meals, all of which were possible. But when they
pulled Graces’ wish from the well it became apparent there may
be a challenge in bringing her request to fruition.
Graces’ wish was to meet with Oprah Winfrey. She could have wished
for most anything in the world, but her thoughts and dreams of meeting
you were all she wanted.
I realize you are an extremely busy person and are approached constantly
for different reasons, however for the dreams of this kind lady in Norwood,
would it be possible to touch her life, if only for a moment. It would
mean so much to us all.
Thank you for taking the time to read my request it is very much appreciated.
Thank you Oprah.
