'I think it will
be a thrilling experience for mom'

A month ago, Heather Caldwell didn't know her mother was
an avid fan of the Oprah Winfrey show.
But she hasn't heard about much else since.
Her mother, Grace Patterson, a resident at Pleasant Meadow
Manor in Norwood, dropped a wish into the home's wishing well, requesting
to meet the
popular talk-show host. In late August, the wish was retrieved by staff
members, who for weeks, have been trying to make the meeting happen.
The day Grace learned her wish had been selected, she
called her daughter Heather.
"This comes as a surprise to me," says Heather
of her mom's love for the show.
"This is something I didn't know." According
to staff, Grace, 80, watches the show religiously and refuses to
leave her room during
the daily time slot.
Heather says she has read all of the articles in the local media about
her mom's wish and knows her mother is quite a celebrity at the long-term
care home. OMNI launched a poster and postcard campaign, asking people
within OMNI and in the communities surrounding the home to support
Grace's
Wish.
More than 500 letters of support were shipped off to the Oprah
show late last week.
Pleasant Meadow initially emailed the show about Grace's
Wish in late August, but only received confirmation the correspondence
had
arrived. It was at that point, home office teamed up with Pleasant
Meadow.
Heather says the wishing well concept at the home
is a good idea, depending on what the wishes are. "If it's kept to something realistic,
I think it's great." She says whether her mom gets to meet Oprah
or staff does something special instead, it will be good for Grace.
She's "pretty limited as to what she can do anymore.
I think it will be a thrilling experience for mom."
