Organized mayhem at Halloween celebrations
Monday November 3, 2003 Roderick Benns
Karl Samuelson is a NASCAR junkie. Jeff Bedley is Darth Vader. More than
one resident appears to be Steve Yzerman. The motley crew was topped only
by the screaming, enthusiastic children of staff members, who descended
on Garden Terrace Friday in their costumes.
“This is organized mayhem,” laughs Karl, as he
strains to be heard over the sound of excited children. “It’s
happy Halloween mayhem,” he adds.
Karl, administrator of the long-term care home, says the rest
of management – including Darth Vader-looking life enrichment co-ordinator
Jeff Bedley -- are making plans to go out to lunch. “We’re
going to turn some heads,” he says.
The Halloween fun is an example, says Karl, of the way Garden
Terrace staff and management go “beyond the call.”
“It’s a special place. Yes, we have a beautiful
home, structurally. But people here take it to the next level and that’s
what makes it really special.”
