New Springdale
springs into view for residents

Amidst all of the confusion, there is happiness overall.
As the new Springdale Country Manor in Springville shifts into focus in
the community,
residents are shifting into new rooms and seem very interested in the
changes happening around them – and to them.

This, from Wendy Logan, nursing administrative services manager (NASM)
at the long-term care home and all-around busy person as the home contends
with massive transitions. For instance, all residents but 11 have been
moved to new rooms. This has created challenges for them but also for
staff who were also used to residents being in the same rooms for a
long time.
“There’s some confusion, but that’s to be expected,” says
Wendy.
At the beginning of the week there were extra staff on the floor,
including supportive measures specialist Maureen Imamovic, who helped
residents cope with the controlled chaos.
In addition, family members of the staff were hired
to help move items and furniture, given the sheer amount of changes
that were taking place. “That
was reassuring to residents – they wouldn’t have had that
one-on-one contact with people otherwise,” notes Wendy.
“We reassure them all the time. They’re very interested
in the new action in their lives, though. Many have ventured over to
the new wing” to see what all the fuss is about, says Wendy.
Wendy describes the new Springdale wing as “beautiful,” although
the older section is still undergoing a great deal of change, too.
New ventilation is being put in and where the old offices were, a new
dining room and lounge area is being created.
